Ex-barrington High Teacher R. Wayne Siegworth

R. Wayne Siegworth, 77, of Barrington, a retired Barrington High School chemistry teacher who also served as assistant principal, athletic director and coach of freshman football and golf, died Friday in Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Born in Burlington, Iowa, Mr. Siegworth was raised in Hudson, Ill., and graduated from Normal Community High School in Normal, Ill. He served two years as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a first lieutenant.

After the war, Mr. Siegworth attended Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., and completed his bachelor of science degree in chemistry in 1947. He obtained his master's degree in administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1957. In 1971, he received a master's degree in education from the University of Portland.

He moved to Barrington in 1951. He was a chemistry teacher at Barrington High School for 34 years. He retired in 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Robert; a daughter, Sandra Jones; three brothers, John, Loren and Harold; and two granddaughters.

Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Church of Barrington, 407 Grove Ave., Barrington.
